Xiaomi, a big company from China that makes electronics, has just brought out something new in India - the Redmi Buds 5. These are special earphones that don't have any wires and come with fancy features like blocking out noise and connecting to two devices at once. Let's explore all the details about these earbuds - what they look like, how much they cost, and where you can get them.

A look at the details of Redmi Buds 5

    Design and Build:

The Redmi Buds 5 look a bit like Apple's Air Pods and are designed to fit into your ears comfortably. They come in three cool colors - Fusion Black, Fusion Purple, and Fusion White. The case they come in is shaped like an oval and looks nice along with the earbuds.

    Noise Blocking and Sound Quality:

One awesome thing about the Redmi Buds 5 is that they can block out almost all background noise, so you can enjoy your music without any distractions. They have special drivers that make the music sound good. You can also choose from different modes to make the music sound even better, like making the treble higher or the bass stronger.

    Connecting and Controlling:

The Redmi Buds 5 connects to your devices using Bluetooth, which is a technology for wireless connections. They also have touch controls, so you can easily play or pause your music or change the noise-blocking settings. You can even connect them to two devices at the same time.

    Smart Features and App:

These earbuds have some smart features, like a way to find them if you lose them using your phone. There's also an app you can use to customize how they work. You can change the noise-blocking settings and adjust the sound to your liking. It's like having a remote control for your earbuds.

    Battery Life and Charging:

The Redmi Buds 5 comes with a case that has a big battery inside, and each earbud has its own smaller battery. If you charge them for just five minutes, you can use them for two hours. And if you charge them for ten minutes, you get four hours of use. With the case, they can last for a long time - up to 38 hours on one charge.

    Price and Where to Buy:

These earbuds cost Rs. 2,999, and you can buy them from February 20 on Mi.com, Amazon, Flipkart, Mi Homes, and some Xiaomi stores. If you buy them together with certain Xiaomi devices, you can get them for a bit cheaper - Rs. 2,499.

    Review of Redmi Buds 5:

Since the earbuds support ANC, but now they have stamps, I think the microphone quality of the Redmi Buds 5 should be better than the previous model. We will check it out a little later. By the way, it's not very noticeable on the Black Version, but the outer part of the earbud is made of matte plastic, and there's a touch panel in the center.

The touch panel is good visible on the White Version because it is silver. You know, I think the Redmi Buds 5 earbuds look better in white color. But what do you prefer, the black one? Let me know in the comments below.

    Design and Comfort:

I didn't find any waterproof information about the protection of the Redmi Bud 5, so I don't think they are meant for sports or even swimming or showering. However, the earbuds fit very comfortably in my ears and they do not fall out.

When it comes to the size, one earbud has dimensions of 30 by 22 by 24 mm, and its weight is only 5 g. The size of the charging case is 60x50 by 20 22 mm, and its weight with earbuds inside is 42 g. Overall, I like the design of the new Redmi Buds 5 earbuds, especially in white color.

    Control Functions and App Integration:

Now let's talk about control functions. I want to say right away that the control functions can be changed in the app, but we will talk about that a little later. By default, you can double-tap on the earbuds to play or pause the music, a triple-tap on the left or right earbuds switches to the next track. You can also press and hold any earbud for 2 seconds to switch between noise reduction and transparency modes.

Of course, you can use the earbuds to accept or reject phone calls. Another important feature of Redmi Buds 5 is in-ear detection. When you take one earbud out of your ear, the music automatically stops on your smartphone. When you put the earbuds back in your ear, the music continues to play. This is a very useful and convenient feature.

As for the app, I tried to pair the Redmi Buds 5 with the iPhone; however, the earbuds were not detected, and I didn't find them in the list of supported devices. Then I tried to pair the new Xiaomi earbuds with an Android smartphone. Fortunately, I was able to do this. If your earbuds are not detected, make sure the region in the app is mainland China.

In the app, we can see the battery level of the left and right earbuds and the charging case. Then we can switch between transparency and noise cancellation modes or turn it off. The control functions are customizable in the gestures menu. The app provides additional functions, such as audio effects and in-ear detection. However, the biggest surprise was the lack of a gaming mode. Even pressing the earbuds and holding them for 2 seconds doesn't activate the game mode. The Redmi Buds 5 earbuds probably don't need a game mode.

    Sound Quality and ANC:

You can also select audio effects in the app, such as standard, enhanced treble, enhanced bass, and enhanced voice. The additional settings have in-ear detection, auto power off, tip fit test, in connection, T calls automatically, and R name earphones. There's also a 'find your earphones' function in the app. When you press left, right, or both, the alarm is played on the earbuds.

Then you can update the firmware of the earbuds. My current version is 1.0.2.6. The last options in the app, are a user manual in Chinese, FAQ, and about earphones. The biggest surprise to me was the lack of a gaming mode. Even pressing the earbuds and holding them for 2 seconds doesn't activate the game mode. The Redmi Buds 5 earbuds probably don't need a game mode. Now I'm really interested in testing latency in games.

The sound quality of the Redmi Buds 5 is impressive. The earbuds have a large 12.4 mm dynamic driver and a titanium-coated diaphragm. Tuned by the Xiaomi acoustic lab golden ears team, these earbuds offer four audio effects in the app, allowing users to customize the sound profile to their liking.

The earbuds deliver clear vocals and strong bass, making them suitable for various music genres. The active noise cancellation (ANC) feature, with three levels of noise reduction, further enhances the listening experience. The ANC is effective, blocking out background noise up to 46 dB, and providing a peaceful audio environment.

    Battery Life:

A single earbud has a battery capacity of 150 mAh, while the charging case has a 500 mAh power battery. The battery life on a single charge is about 10 hours with ANC off, and the total battery life with a charging case is 40 hours. This is a significant improvement over the Redmi Buds 4.

    Conclusion:

To summarize, the Xiaomi Redmi Buds 5 surprised me. First, the design of the charging case has been updated, and now it has two LED indicators. The earbuds with stamps look appealing as well, especially in white color. The mobile app provides some additional functions; for example, audio effects. Overall, the sound quality is very good.

I also like how the ANC works. The battery life has been greatly improved compared to the previous generation. Among the disadvantages, I would note the lack of water protection. At least I haven't found any information about it. In addition, the new Xiaomi earbuds do not have a game mode. I think it is the main problem with Redmi Buds 5. Perhaps a game mode will be added later via software updates. Overall, the Redmi Buds 5 are great for their price.
