Ratan Tata Death News: One of the most respected businessmen in the country and former Chairman of the Tata Sons conglomerate, Ratan Tata, passed away on Wednesday (October 9, 2024).
He was 86 years old, and now speculations are being made
about who will take over the vast Tata Sons empire after his demise.
Ratan Tata was also known for his philanthropic work and was one of India's most charitable industrialists. During his lifetime, Ratan Tata made substantial contributions to education, healthcare, rural development, and disaster relief through the Tata Trusts.
Ratan Tata never married and had no children, so after his death,
the question arises: who will inherit his wealth?
To understand who will manage his business after his passing, one needs to know about his family. Ratan Tata's parents were Naval Tata and Sooni, who divorced around the 1940s. In 1955, Naval Tata remarried a Swiss woman named Simone.
They had a
son named Noel Tata, and since Ratan Tata had no children, it is highly likely
that the multi-billion-dollar fortune will go to his stepbrother Noel Tata's
relatives. Noel Tata has three children named Maya, Neville, and Leah Tata.
Maya Tata
There is a possibility that Ratan Tata's wealth will go to Maya Tata, daughter of his stepbrother Noel Tata. The 34-year-old Maya holds degrees from Bayes Business School and Warwick University. She began her career with the Tata Opportunity Fund, after which she moved to Tata Digital, where she played a key role in developing and launching the Tata Neu app.
She currently serves on the
board of the Tata Medical Center Trust along with her siblings. Maya Tata’s
mother is the sister of the late Cyrus Mistry, former chairman of Tata Sons,
and the daughter of the late billionaire Pallonji Mistry.
Neville Tata
Maya Tata's brother, Neville Tata (32 years old), is also involved in the family business and is considered a potential successor to Ratan Tata's empire. He is married to Mansi Kirloskar, heir to the Toyota Kirloskar Group, and they have a son named Jamshed Tata.
Neville Tata currently heads Star Bazaar, a
hypermarket chain operated under Trent Limited. He was initially entrusted
with managing the packaged food and beverages division, and after proving his
capability, he also took charge of Zudio and Westside. Some experts believe he
was being groomed as a successor for the Tata Group.
Leah Tata (39 years old)
Leah Tata, the sibling of Neville and Maya Tata, is involved in the family’s
hotel division. She was educated at IE Business School in Spain. Leah worked at
Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces and now manages the operations of Indian Hotels
Company. She also briefly interned at Louis Vuitton in 2010, but her primary
focus has always been on the hotel industry.
